Top 5 Tanzania Safari Destinations

If you are planning a Tanzania safari, here are my top 5 destinations to start you off.

Mt. Kilimanjaro

A safari to Africa’s highest mountain is top on my list. I love hiking/mountain climbing and Mt. Kilimanjaro is the perfect destination for thus. It is located in Northern Tanzania and stands at 5,896m above sea level. No special expertise is required to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. You just have to be physically fit. The only caution I would give you is climb only the farthest you can. Do not be tempted to climb higher and higher just because others are doing it. Climb as high as your body allows you. You can always be escorted back if your body gives in. Enjoy beautiful forest vegetation as well as animals and birds.

Serengeti National Park

My next favorite destination in Tanzania is the Serengeti. It’s a perfect spot for lovers of everything wild. The Serengeti National Park is the largest park in Tanzania and hosts thousands of animals and bird species. In Serengeti you will enjoy amazing game drives, game walks, bush safaris as well as the large spectacular stretches of grassland. This is also the place where the wildebeest migration starts and ends. Millions of wildebeests migrate from the Serengeti across the Mara River into Maasai Mara in Kenya. They later migrate from the Mara and come back to the Serengeti. The wildebeests come back to the Serengeti in time for the birthing season. This involves thousands of wildebeests giving birth at the same time. It’s an incredible experience. Some of the animals you’ll see include leopards, cheetahs, zebras, elephants, lions, antelopes, hyena and giraffes among others.

Ngorongoro Crater and Conservation Area

Bordering the Serengeti is Ngorongoro Crater. The main reason I visited Ngorongoro was the fact that it is the world’s largest crater. I wanted to see what it has to offer and I was not disappointed. The crater’s floor is made up of vast vegetation which comprises of shrubs and grassland. The floor hosts various animals like the endangered black rhino, zebras, antelopes, lions and elephants among others. You will enjoy a game drive at the crater’s floor and later drive to the rim of the crater where you will have a spectacular aerial view of the crater.

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is renowned for walking safaris and bird-watching. The park hosts a wide range of wild animals and bird species. Tarangire National Park has unique vegetation which comprises baobabs and grassland. During game drives and safari walks you’ll spot animals like impala, wildebeests, elephants, zebras and giraffes.

Zanzibar

To end my Tanzania safari, I took a trip to Zanzibar. I’ve made it a habit of ending my safaris with a beach safari. It helps relax my mind and body.

Zanzibar hosts a number of spectacular beaches located along the Indian Ocean. You will enjoy beach activities like beach volleyball, swimming, speed boating, snorkeling, glass boat rides and jet skiing among others. Zanzibar is also a historical town and you will visit some of these historical sites. You will learn a lot of history as well as enjoy the beautiful architecture.

Now you can start planning your next trip to Tanzania!
